It has been many years since our first trip here and we are now full time residents and farmers too. Quite a change from the Long Island suburbs.
When you come for a visit you will notice the wide open spaces and beautiful scenery but that is not all that this village has to offer.
Just minutes from Long Meadow Farm is the newly restored spa, " Mepal Manor".
The Old Inn On The Green offers fine
dining right in the center of the village.
The Gedney Farm is also located in the historic village and has been the host to many spectacular weddings. It is quite the site to see a bride and groom drive by in a horse drawn carriage on their way to the wedding ceremony at the New Marlbourough Village Meeting House.
If that is not enough, it is just a short drive into Great Barrington .This town has many wonderful restaurants and also great shops for browsing. Drive north on route 7 and you will be in Stockbridge, MA.. Stockbridge still appears remarkably like a Norman Rockwell painting.
If you love music, Tanglewood Music Center is for you. You get the idea. This is
an extraordinary place to live or visit. We are blessed to be surrounded by all this and our amazing alpaca family too.
Our alpaca herd is small ( between 15 and 20 animals) and that is just the way we like it. They live in a brand new 24' by 45 foot barn and have 11 acres of pasture to graze. Many breeders own llamas or livestock guardian dogs to protect their alpacas.
We considered a Great Pyrenees or an Akbash but decided to install electric fencing for the time being to protect against the local coyote population and other predators. The farm is constantly evolving. A Farm store is projected for the future.
Handspun and machine processed fiber will be available soon along with hats , scarves and gloves and other fine alpaca products.
We are so proud to have become caretakers to these truly wonderful animals in this truly amazing place.
Hope to see you soon!
